That final season was so strong and emotionally charged, it was almost the crashing end of a euphoric drug fuelled orgy.

We whacked as much of the stuff up our hooter as we could and it for a change rewarded us that season. Suddenly our dealer had gone and the new shit ain’t as good.

I reiterate, football is not about 11 highly paid robots on the pitch.

It’s about a Club mentality, it’s about the same old faces, it’s about the hundreds of local or otherwise (regardless of ethnicity) members of support and catering staff who made it tick, it’s about taking your feedback at source positive or negative, it’s about them being on top of you (less so lately but despite our internal negative view enough players from oppo have said now they don’t miss it must you divs realise) it’s about the community, it’s about pride.

We don’t have any of that anymore. That affects the team, absolute fact.

West Ham ain’t been that good in my 30 years of supporting them with nigh on 20 home and away. Did I ever doubt the club during that time? Rarely as we had a common cause.

The move to the OS has ripped that apart.

Do not forget the hundreds of stewards, security guards, receptionists, hotel staff, grounds men who were probably all West Ham fans before they joined and if not were after a few years.

Fucking loads of them made redundant, which was the board goal all along.

This is worst ever situation our Club has ever been in.

No heart, no passion, no history, no pride, no loyalty, no soul.

Berks Inc (THE THREE PLANKS, Gold, Sullivan & the Duchess of Knightsbridge) and their supporters did this to us.”

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan shares a festive message for Hammers fans celebrating Christmas

"Getting the Olympic Stadium, I think will change the future of the Club and increase our fan base, by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

I think that getting the Olympic Stadium for the Club is one of the most important things that we have done this year and maybe in the history of the Club and it will do so much for supporters, because the facilities are so much better than they are at Upton Park.

The communication links to Stratford are vastly better than they are at Upton Park.

Everything at the Olympic Stadium will be better. The facilities, so much better, whether it is loos, bars, TVs, erm, it will just be on another level.

More importantly the Olympic Stadium will attract better players. If we are perceived as a big Club, with a great Stadium, erm, in the heart of London, erm, a lot of foreign players, who might not have come to us, wouldn’t be thinking of coming to us, will be attracted to come to West Ham. So we are very confident that when we get the Stadium, that we will have a better team than we have now."

‘It’s soulless here’: why West Ham fans are in revolt
When a football club moves from its historic home to a shiny new stadium, it leaves more than memories behind – as West Ham supporters are discovering at the London Stadium

It’s a mild Monday evening in April and 56,795 people, officially at least, have come along to London Stadium at the Olympic Park in Stratford to watch West Ham United play Stoke City in a bottom-of-the-table Premier League match. That’s a large crowd, by any standards, but judging by the fans milling around the huge concourse outside the ground, it’s not a happy one.

Of course, football fans are not renowned for their cheery optimism. By and large, it’s a grim business being a supporter, a forlorn struggle between daydreams and despair. As Nick Hornby wrote in Fever Pitch: “The natural state of the football fan is bitter disappointment, no matter what the score.”

In March, during a match against Burnley, some West Ham fans were sufficiently disappointed to invade the pitch in an act of protest. A much larger number gathered beneath the directors’ box to hurl insults and objects at the joint chairmen of the club, David Sullivan and David Gold, who were ushered away by security as the protesters – in a show of magical thinking of which diehard supporters are reliably capable – demanded that the board sack itself.

It’s highly unlikely that this scene would have taken place had West Ham been at the top end of the table, yet the animosity was about more than a poor performance (they went on to lose 3-0 to Burnley).

West Ham are no strangers to setbacks. They’ve twice been relegated in this century, and endured several spells in the second tier in the last century. Such reversals are understood to be part of the twists in fortune that inevitably attend competitive sport. What has upset the fans this season is not the loss of a football match so much as the loss of an identity. As far as the West Ham faithful are concerned, the move in 2016 from the old Boleyn Ground in Upton Park, three miles to the east, to the London Stadium in Stratford feels like a painful exile from their spiritual home.

A typical complaint I heard before the Stoke game came from Tom Girling, a 52-year-old who has been following West Ham since he was 13. “This place is soulless,” he said, gesturing at the stadium and the empty expanse in which it’s located. “It’s got nothing. I used to go to Upton Park, grab a programme, nip in the pie and mash, have a bet, into the boozer, meet my pals, all good, have a laugh, then out afterwards. I’ve got nish here. I’m out in the elements drinking beer out of a plastic glass.”

I told him that I’d seen a pie and mash kiosk outside nearby Hackney Wick station, and there is one on the perimeter of the stadium. He looked at me as if I’d suggested becoming a Spurs fan.

“You mean the fashionista place?” he asked scathingly. “No, no, no. I’m not being funny… you’ve got all these trendy bearded people and they’ve got all these 13-hop ales I don’t understand. I’m old school. I like a pint of Carling. I’m a working-class boy. Football’s a working-class man’s game.”

As we know, there are few tribes who feel more endangered than the white working-class male. And while many will mock, the plight of disgruntled West Ham fans is in many ways a symbol of a culture that is rapidly vanishing from London life. Among the capital’s big football clubs, West Ham long enjoyed the reputation as being the most grounded in its community – the working-class East End. It was the home of heroes such as former players Billy Bonds and the late, legendary Bobby Moore.

But east London is in the midst of a huge transformation, and nowhere is that process more evident than from the vantage point of the Olympic Park, a concrete wilderness sitting between the advance forces of gentrification: consumerism and hipsterism.

On the east side of the park looms the giant glass edifice of the Westfield shopping centre, a glittering cathedral dedicated to the disposal of excess income. On the west is an old industrial quarter now inhabited by artists and canal-side bars with their craft beers and moodily hirsute clientele. Neither place feels like home to people like Girling, and nor does the “sterile wasteland” – as another fan, Mark Reynolds, describes it – that lies between them.

“I don’t smell any burgers and onions,” Girling complains. Reynolds, a 56-year-old supporter of 43 years’ standing, agrees: “You go down to Upton Park and there’s boozers right by the ground. It was all locals and the market, and you had the Asian community. There was Nathan’s, the pie and eel shop, people used to queue up round the corner. It was just part of the match-day experience.”

But pie and eels don’t transform a football team’s fortunes, and football, as we’re constantly reminded, is a business. If you’re going to be successful you need to generate enough money to buy the best players. To do that it helps if you can attract a large attendance. The capacity at Upton Park, a tight little ground, was 35,000. It’s 57,000 at the London Stadium. As the saying goes, do the maths. Sullivan and Gold did, and they argued that the new ground was the first step towards a bold, bright future. West Ham fans understand that logic; they just believe that that future is a cruel illusion.

“The move to Stratford was made on the promise of a world-class team in a world-class stadium,” says Brian Williams, another long-term fan and author of Home from Home: A West Ham Supporter’s Struggle to Reach the Next Level. “After two seasons at the new place we know that that’s not true, and that we have given up our history, our heritage, our legacy, all of which was focused on Upton Park. So we have a very poor team playing at a stadium that is not fit for football.”

History, heritage, legacy? Aren’t those rather inflated concepts. After all, it’s only a football pitch surrounded by some seats. What’s the big issue?

Back in the summer of 2009 I was taken around a vast building site at Stratford by members of Sebastian Coe’s London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. At its centre was a giant stadium in the mid-stages of construction, though its design – a rather bland modern bowl – was even then clear. It was built to hold 80,000 spectators and then to be disassembled to leave a capacity of around 25,000. Its legacy, which was the buzzword of Olympic planning, was to provide an athletics stadium to replace the decrepit National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace. Coe told me that there was a “complicated stakeholder landscape” that included the government, the mayor’s office, five London boroughs, UK Sport and Sport England, but everyone agreed that there should be no “white elephants” left behind by the Games. He explained that what distinguished the Olympic Stadium from previous ambitious public projects, like the Dome (now the O2 Centre), was “clarity of purpose”.

Shortly afterwards it was decided that the idea of a national athletics stadium should be shelved. Suddenly the stadium’s longterm purpose was looking distinctly murky. The talk turned to a multi-purpose venue, which in fact was the concept originally discussed when London was bidding for the Games. At that time West Ham had expressed an interest in an occupancy, but were discouraged when a decision was made to design the stadium specifically for athletics.

Once the Olympics were over, the stadium, having been built as an athletics arena, became the subject of complex tenancy competition between two football clubs – West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur – for what seemed like a cheap way of using a large stadium with great transport links. E20, the public company set up to run the stadium, offered a deal to the potential occupants in which taxpayers would pay many of the running costs, like policing, stewarding and turnstile operators. Tottenham’s bid involved knocking down the Olympic Stadium and building a football-specific arena in its place, which they estimated would cost a total of £320m.

After much legal wrangling, and accusations of behind-the-scenes deals, it was West Ham who emerged victorious. And rather than knock down the stadium, the agreement was made to adapt it for football, at an estimated cost of £190m. Last year an independent review commissioned by the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, found that costs had escalated to £323m – more than it would have cost to build a new stadium.

Inside the London Stadium, the first thing you notice is the low rake of the terraces and the wide space between the pitch and the stands, where the athletics track is placed. The space is filled by a green cover which, according to West Ham’s previous manager, Slaven Bilic, left his players confused about the dimensions of the pitch. There was talk of changing the colour to claret – West Ham’s main kit colour – but that was blocked by the stadium’s owners.

Green or claret, from where I’m sitting in the 35th row watching the Hammers take on Stoke, that gap makes the action looks oddly remote, as if disconnected from those watching it. From the 73rd row, at the back of the stadium, it’s more like looking through the wrong end of a telescope. The atmosphere is a mixture of anxious and surly, with very little singing by the home team. The exception is a couple of hearty renditions of West Ham’s club anthem, I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles. The lyrics, written by three Americans in 1918, are filled with a telling pathos.

Who could sing with such conviction about fading and dying dreams but football fans?

“We can make a din here,” Girling had told me, but he felt that it was a rare occurrence rather than the regular experience at Upton Park, where opposing teams were “intimidated” by the noise.

Perhaps the only people who have been intimidated at the London Stadium this season are the owners, Sullivan and Gold. In the club programme for the Stoke match Sullivan wrote a defensive column, calling on the fans to “produce the goods in front of the cameras” (the match was live on Sky). The pair acquired a controlling stake in the club in 2010, buying out the previous owners – the rump of an Icelandic consortium that was bankrupted by the 2008 financial crisis. They had previously owned Birmingham City FC, where they proved to be less than popular. Having made their money in the porn business, then Ann Summers (Gold) and the Daily Sport (Sullivan), it’s fair to say they have seldom enjoyed a glowing public profile.

But it could be argued that they are well suited to West Ham. They’re both working-class blokes made good. Gold, the son of an East End criminal, actually grew up a few yards from the Boleyn Ground and even played for the West Ham youth team.

As the protests showed, however, that counts for little with the fans. There is a belief that Sullivan and Gold are prone to grand statements on which they can’t or won’t deliver. Williams suggests they’re “too hands-on in football matters”, in which they are not expert.

This criticism, perhaps unsurprisingly in the still largely unreconstructed world of football, has been particularly addressed to West Ham’s vice-chairman, and sometime sidekick of Alan Sugar on The Apprentice, Karren Brady. One fan, who insisted on anonymity, told me: “I think she is probably the most malevolent influence there is at West Ham.”

She did not endear herself to the fans when she tweeted 15 minutes before the Stoke match that her new TV show was starting at 8pm – the same time as kick-off. “Give It a Year starts on ITV,” she wrote, “hope you watch it and I hope you enjoy it!”

“She seems more worried about her own ego than what’s going on at the clubs,” says Reynolds.

“I’m not her biggest fan,” says Williams, with ironic understatement.

Still, when all is said and done, at the time Sullivan and Gold bought the club it was in financial crisis. Following relegation, they guided it out of the Championship (the second tier league) and into mid-table Premiership security, and moved it into a brand-new stadium with good transport links in a part of London that is set to thrive.

The old Boleyn Ground was not suited to expansion. It has since been demolished and new Barratt Homes are going up in a development called Upton Gardens – more East End gentrification. Nor is the area around the ground quite the pie and mash heaven of old cockney folklore; in fact it’s largely populated by Londoners of subcontinental origin, with Halal butchers and sari shops. Reynolds says that this was another element of life that made match days so appealing by contrast with the “soulless” experience of the new location.

But perhaps it’s significant that many of the West Ham fans lament the loss of community to which they did not in any geographical sense belong. Williams, for example, lives in Brighton, though his wife hails originally from the East End, and Girling is a west Londoner with family roots in the east London meat trade. Reynolds lives in St Albans, “out in the shires”, as he put it. Of half a dozen fans I spoke to at the Stoke game, none lived near the old ground.

From that admittedly small sample, Upton Park represented a link to a disappeared past for the East End’s white working-class diaspora. Not that West Ham followers are exclusively white or working class. You do see different ethnicities, but nowhere like the make-up of either the West Ham team itself or Newham, the borough that contains Upton Park and some of the Olympic Park, which – at 16.7% – has the lowest percentage of white British residents in London.

None of that is to suggest West Ham is unwelcoming of other ethnicities; it’s to note that football, like east London, is in the midst of social transformation, and as with all change, some will find the new environment more alienating. “Detached” was how Girling characterised his fellow West Ham fans’ feelings about their new home. But it’s possible that to the next generation of fans, which is likely to come from a more diverse base and for whom the names of Billy Bonds and Bobby Moore may not possess the same totemic power, the new setting could well appear more open.

One such candidate might have been 18-year-old Sami Sidhom from Forest Gate, a West Ham season ticket holder who was at the Stoke game. After the match he was stabbed to death outside his home in an apparently unprovoked attack, the latest victim of London’s epidemic of teen knife murders.

As they often say in football, such tragic events lend a sense of perspective. Or as Williams acknowledges in his book, “relocating from one football stadium to another is not the most serious crisis facing humankind in these worrying times”.

In truth, the London Stadium is not a ground best suited to watching football or generating an atmosphere of intense – or intimidating – togetherness. A restless, resentful feeling swirled around the bowl until Stoke, against the run of play, scored a goal.

Then something more urgent and angry kicked in. The crowd bayed and cursed and in the last minute, the substitute Andy Carroll hit a superb volley to equalise. There was a sudden release of pent-up tension and the fans went home, if not happy, then mollified.

West Ham will probably survive in the Premier League, but the culture and community with which it has for so long been associated may be destined, like those pretty bubbles, to fade and die.

'No confidence in the board'

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.

West Ham fans agree with Shearer comments

Former England forward Alan Shearer was pretty scathing in his criticism of West Ham United on Sunday night’s Match of the Day programme.

Indeed, the Hammers were thumped 4-1 by Manchester City at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon to leave themselves still very much in relegation trouble.

Shearer accused a number of West Ham players – namely Javier Hernandez and Cheikhou Kouyate – of lacking effort during the match at the London Stadium.

City are a wonderful football team, but Shearer was keen to stress that the Hammers made it easy for Pep Guardiola’s side by failing to close the space available to the English champions.

The West Ham fans are a very frustrated bunch at the moment, with many taking to social media to blast head coach David Moyes, who faces a battle to keep his job.

The club’s supporters were in complete agreement with football pundit Shearer on Sunday night, however, following a disappointing performance from their team.

Andy Carroll disappeared down the tunnel before the full-time whistle of West Ham's loss to Man City.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has told Sky Sports that he will "deal with" Andy Carroll after the Hammers striker headed down the tunnel from the substitutes' bench before the full-time whistle on Sunday.

Carroll, 29, started the game on the bench for the Hammers, but Moyes decided to deploy a triple substitution in the 65th minute of West Ham's 4-1 loss to Manchester City.

Javier Hernandez, Joao Mario and Arthur Masuaku entered the field of play, leaving Carroll as an unused substitute which prompted the England international to leave the sidelines early. Moyes said he will deal with the striker.

"It's something I'll deal with," Moyes said. "In this situation what you need is everybody to be a team member so if he has done that, I'll look at it and I'll deal with it."

The Hammers could do nothing to prevent the heavy loss to Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions, leaving the east Londoners in 15th place and only three points above the drop zone.

The former Newcastle United striker's future at the London Stadium is already in doubt, with only a year left on a contract the Daily Star claim is worth £70,000 a week.

However, the majority of West Ham fans defended Carroll with one fan described Moyes as "embarrassing".

David Moyes’ position as West Ham manager had looked so secure two months ago, but it now looks as though that is not the case at all as the Premier League season hurtles towards a tense end for the Irons.

A sequence of just one win from their last eight games has plunged the Hammers back into the relegation dogfight, now sitting just three points above 18th-placed Southampton with three games remaining.

A quick glance at the fixture list for West Ham and their rivals would suggest that the Hammers should just about avoid the drop, but that will most likely fail to paper over the cracks that have begun to show at the London Stadium.

Moyes has seemingly begun to lose the dressing room in recent weeks, with the first notable incident coming in his public criticism of young defender Declan Rice after their 4-1 loss to Arsenal.

The Scot then followed that up with a similar outburst about Manuel Lanzini following their loss by the same scoreline to Manchester City on Sunday, which prompted an immediate response from Pablo Zabaleta in defending his teammate.

The latest incident has seen Moyes involved in an explosive bust-up with striker Andy Carroll at the training ground, with the 29-year-old reportedly ordered to go home.

Carroll is said to have been left annoyed by Moyes’ decision to leave him on the bench against City, with the England international storming down the tunnel before the final whistle.

As reported by Hammers insider site Claret and Hugh, Moyes’ comments on Lanzini and the Carroll incident may come back to bite him with the squad’s morale said to be lowered considerably following the match.

The site, run by insider Hugh Southon, claim that the certainty surrounding a new contract for Moyes is now diminished, with the club sure to consider their options before tabling that deal this summer.

In truth, it looks like the writing is on the wall for Moyes, who seems to have lost the confidence of his players in recent weeks, possibly due to his knack for public criticism.

The Scot is also lacking in support from the stands, with many fans not keen on seeing him in the dugout next season.

If a more viable alternative becomes available, which is likely to happen soon, then Moyes could well find himself out of a job once again this summer.

West Ham now firmly in relegation scrap after poor City performance

A few games ago I started wondering where West Ham will get the points to survive from. Now I’m hoping everyone else slips up.

When we won at Southampton I felt that West Ham would stay up pretty easily. When we drew at Chelsea I thought we had turned a corner and was looking up the table. Now I’m hoping Huddersfield, Swansea and Southampton conspire to play awful football for the rest of the season so we don’t go down. What’s gone on?

Once again we are drawn into a proper relegation scrap at the end of the season, paying the price for lack of ambition. We signed cost effective players rather than trying for bigger names, and have hired a negative manager to try and solve our issues. The club have three games left, and I am worried about not picking up another point.

Everton are our final game, and I’m sure Big Sam would love to send us down. If it goes down to that final game and we need a win, I am not at all confident. They’ve also seen an upturn in form of late, and Allardyce’s teams have always been hard to beat.

Before that we have Manchester United at home, and that’s a really strange fixture. They are a good side, and on their day they’ve shown they can beat anyone. But under Mourinho they’re strangely inconsistent as well. We might be able to grab a point, but I don’t see us keeping out any side that contains Lukaku.

Which means our real chance of points comes against Leicester. We need to get a win away from home to cement our Premier League status. They did lose their last game 5-0 to Palace, and they have nothing to play for at all. However I worry that Moyes will go defensive again, and we will miss the chance to really attack a team that may have more of its members looking at the World Cup than the Premier League table.

But the fact remains I am worried. The club is in a poor state and that is not just one thing, but a culmination of almost every decision that the club has made over the past few years. We can’t keep relying on Arnautovic to bail us out.

Enough is enough, say lifelong supporters

West Ham United are set to lose more long-term loyal supporters when season tickets are due for renewal this summer.

A number of disenchanted supporters, some of whom have been season ticket holders for several decades have told KUMB.com that they are not currently considering renewing their season tickets as a result of dissatisfaction with the Olympic Stadium and the direction in which the club is being taken by the current Board of Directors.

After the first season in Stratford, around 5,000 season ticket holders refrained from renewing for the current campaign (2017/18). And with potentially thousands more loyal, long-term fans set to walk away from the club, the club is in serious danger of losing yet more of its traditional core support.

"I've been going since 1965 and have been a season ticket holder, off and on, for over 30 years," wrote KUMB Forum member Westbourne Bill. "I've kept my side of the bargain by finding the money and time but the club haven't kept theirs, so I'll pick three or four games just to meet up with friends otherwise I'll watch my local non-league team."

That's a familiar scenario at present, echoed by many long-suffering supporters - such as fellow KUMB member IABATAC, who also intends to 'retire' after more than 40 years as a regular.

"That's it for me and my son," he wrote. "We will not be renewing our season tickets, taking up a membership or buying tickets on the day. I've been going since 1976, my son since he was four (he's 25 now) but we can no longer bring ourselves to be complicit in the destruction of West Ham United.

"We've joined the action groups, we've done the protests, we were there under the director's box against Burnley, but we will no longer go to that ground to watch that useless bunch play the tactics of that negative stop-gap failure of a manager, all of which is the product of the most toxic, cancerous, asset-stripping trio ever to be associated with a football club.

"Furthermore, we believe that this is the only way to truly demonstrate against this bunch of self serving, avaricious psychopaths that have infected West Ham United and we will not set foot in that monument to everything that is wrong with football in the 21st century until such time as GSB have a complete volte-face and live up to the promises they made or get out of our club."

The intention to stay away until Sullivan & Gold sell the club is a strong theme amongst many fans, whilst the depth of anti-Board feeling appears as strong as it was 15 years ago when the BrownOut! protests took place prior to former Chairman Terry Brown selling West Ham United to Bjorgolffur Gudmundsson.

"After two separate five-year stints, my Dad and I are out at the end of the season," insisted KUMB member Kentammer. " I don't not want to go - being in the BML and living in Hackney, the matchday experience for me personally is actually quite good - and I will really miss it. But I just can't continue to support those two crooks, so this is our own small protest."

And fellow member Gerblatz is also unlikely to return next season as a result. "I am done, my club died two years ago," he said. "It doesn’t feel the same and never will.

"I've been going for 45 years and never thought I would feel this way. The money people that have messed it up should feel proud of themselves. English football is going to get the life sucked out of it, like my club. There were a lot of empty seats there against Manchester City; people just don’t seem too bothered with the chore anymore."

Meanwhile some supporters - such as KUMB member wildkard - cited the constant changes to fixture dates and times, at the behest of TV companies, as the main reason why he won't be renewing this summer.

"I can't make week night games due to work and there seems to have been a disproportionately large amount of those this season which I have had to miss," he wrote. "I have also missed a couple of weekend games due to work. Given that, and that I'm now at an age where I don't enjoy punishing myself unnecessarily), I won't be renewing. Last season at this time I was undecided, this season I definitely will not be."

Been going since the 80s but lately it's just a chore watching a team that are mismanaged, demotivated and at times, embarrassing. If the league was judged on fan's loyalty then over the years we'd have been a top three side. This lot have turned us into a laughing stock and I'm out.

I don't know..Honestly ..I've just watched Moyes post match comments..He seems to be trotting out the party line.
How can you play one up front against Stoke two weeks ago?..Thats the game where three points were vital and there for the taking!...I will not renew if we are relegated..Ive been a ST holder on and off since 1999,when Joe Cole started his career.
My first game was 1977...So ive seen everything..The players didn't try yesterday..Alan Shearer was spot on with his comments on MOTD....For Mark Noble to say they were too good was a disgrace.
We played them at the Etihad and gave them a game..They weren't too good for us then..We stood up to them ..Yes we lost ..But Man City knew that they had been in a football match..Yesterday was laughable..The guy next to me has already given up his ticket..I haven't seen him for months..There will be many more.

My dad was Budgie Byrne's Comanding officer when JB did his national service. We became pen pals [I was still at school] and from 1965 to 1967, when I was at Uni he sent me players comp tickets whenever I wanted to go to Upton Park. I've been a season holder since - 50 years this year. I'm done now - it's the viewing experience that killed it for me. The Daves are in it for the cash. I like Moyes. He was Ferguson' choice to follow him so there must be something about the guy. The squad he inherited is pants in the main and we need a war chest of £100m just to stay in the PL. We always bought well and had talent waiting in the wings. THose are our roots. We're a TOP 10 side in a good season and relegation candidates in a bad one. We have always been that way and always shall be.

Sad, so sad. I have been following WH since the mid-60s and never have I witnessed such a dispirited squad as this one. I have been very lenient in my criticism, even throughout this disastrous season, but the lack of effort last Sunday was just too much to stomach. In contrast, look at Stoke, five points behind us....they go to Champions League semi-finalists Liverpool and manage a creditable 0-0 draw. They fought for it, they got it. How many more 4s drubbings do we need to survive?

Not renewing either. Will pick and choose games to travel to safe in the knowledge that I won't struggle for a ticket. I've seen shite seasons and relegation's aplenty over the years, as we all have, but at the minute it's just not an enjoyable experience at all. Added to the fact that I'm not based in London and face a 250 mile round trip each home game, the amount of mid-week fixtures that I've missed this season has also made it hard. Yeah, that's the chance you take with a ST when you're not local, but the atmosphere is bloody toxic and the football has been terrible

Sad to see so many fans feeling this way. After 17 years as a season ticket holder I gave it up after the 2010/11 season which was another truly desperate campaign. Scott Parker was the only player to come out of that season with any credit. There was also the appalling mismanagement at board level which saw an amateurish attempt to replace Avram Grant, the disgraceful nature of his sacking and yet more second rate signings. Actually, this sounds somewhat familiar. All I can say is that I don’t miss regular attendance at all. It had become a very one way relationship.

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.

Alan Shearer delivered a damning assessment of West Ham after their 4-1 hammering by champions Manchester City.

And the BBC Man of the Day pundit says the relegation-threatened side "robbed their fans".

“Yes Manchester City are an excellent side. You've got to try and make teams earn their points and I don't think West Ham did that today at all,” said the Newcastle United legend on MOTD2.

“I think they were lazy, I think there was a complete lack of effort other than five minutes towards the end of the first half did they put up a bit of a fight.

“I think they turned up expecting to be beaten and be beaten badly.

'I don't think that performance was anywhere near good enough.

“I thought they robbed their fans today, I really did.”

David Moyes’ men are just three points above the drop zone with three games to play this season.

With Leicester, Manchester United and Everton all to play, West Ham are in danger of dropping down the Championship.

Indeed it would compound a miserable season in which Slaven Bilic was sacked, player recruitment chief Tony Henry was axed and mass protests, which brought carnage to the London Stadium, aimed at unpopular owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

Yet with West Brom and Stoke seemingly down, Huddersfield’s run-in of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal could be the Hammers saving grace.

Swansea and Southampton, who are 18th and three points behind West Ham, remain in trouble too.

From squad to stadium the problems grow and grow

Two years of abject misery and we are three fateful games away from a season which could yet end in relegation!

I still don’t think it will come to that but am as deeply concerned as it’s possible to be regarding the summer ahead and our third year at the London Stadium beyond it.

It hurts to be entirely honest, to bare the soul and admit it, but the truth is everything seems to be crumbling around us.

The squad is simply not good enough to survive another season in the Premier League and the only genuine PL players I see are Zaba, with probably on season left in him; Ogbonna (just), Lanzini (though even he has been sub standard and injury prone), Masuaku and Antonio (same) and of course Arnie.

Declan is rising fast but cannot be expected to play a full season at the tender age of 19.

For me the first thing this board has to do regardless of whether we stay up or go down is to ensure that David Moyes does not receive an automatic contract – he is not the man to lead us on as we saw today.

I sympathise very much with you Hugh and you are not wrong in anything you are saying. I read a post somewhere today that a fan on his way to the match saw the team sheet and turned around and went back home again. That very fairly sums up Moyes ‘s cloth and the confidence we as fans have in him.

Yes we need the right amount of financial support to bring in the right players but first and foremost, we need the right manager. Even if we did manage to get every player we needed on our wishlist, i think we would still be taken down by Moyes.

The trouble is, i can only see the board listening to the fans if we have another shambolic display of the likes we saw at the stadium when we played Burnley. Fans running on the the pitch, surrounding the directors box and i for one certainly don’t want that again. No one does. It’ll only compound the problems we have already.

Is there a sensible way to through to the board that we don’t want Moyes around next season? Can we convince them to look at another option such as Mancini, Rafa or Marco Silva?

I think we will stay up this season but i fear the worst for next….

Why you sympathising with Hugh? This guy does does more u turns than a Tory Home Secretary. He was a very vocal Moyes champion. He proclaimed early on that he hoped Moyes would be here for a very long time.

He’s continued to defend the owners throughout, peddling their propaganda instead of representing the actual feelings of fans.

Don’t forget how they were championing Moyes here and in the general media before Bilic was even sacked. Every time radio or newspapers wanted a pro Moyes spin from “fans”, who did they always turn to for that?

I said from day one that Moyes was the wrong choice. It’s only because the teams below are us are more woeful that we we won’t be relegated…nothing to do with Moyes…whose record for us is appalling. In fact, I don’t think we’re any better off than if we’d kept with Slav. The old beaten drum of better discipline under Moyes is questionable with Carroll’s behaviour. In fact, players are still being late for training…as per Arnies offer to start collecting the fines just a few weeks ago.

I also said that when Moyes was appointed that if it didn’t work out then buck stopped with the board, there could be no hiding place. So it’s no surprise that the pro Moyes voices on here are going into reverse quicker than an Italian tank

This club will continue to be a shambles with our current owners. We will eventually be relegated under them. And then maybe other buyers will step in. Part of me thinks it’d actually be a quick hit of pain to be relegated this season and get it done, rather than go through a few more years of this pantomime of a club.

The owners have used this blog as an unofficial club voice. So I suspect Hugh’s recent u-turn is actually the owners laying the groundwork for getting shot of Moyes. It follows the same pattern as when they were looking to get rid of Bilic.

West Ham United fell to another 4-1 defeat that leaves them just three points above the Premier League relegation zone.

West Ham fans have been commenting on Twitter after watching Patrice Evra's display during their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, with many fans suggesting that they hope that he has played his final game for the club.

Evra was signed by the Irons back in February following his departure from Marseille. And heading into the clash with Pep Guardiola's men, the 36-year-old had made one substitute appearance and two starts - both starts had ended in a 4-1 defeat.

And unfortunately for the Manchester United hero, he marked his third start for the Irons by being beaten 4-1 by the Premier League champions at the London Stadium.

It was the Frenchman who had a major hand in City's first goal as his attempt to block Leroy Sane's shot with his head led to the ball flying past Adrian into the opposite corner to the one that the Spaniard was heading towards.

And his afternoon did not improve from there, with City proving relentless in front of goal to storm to the emphatic win that leaves David Moyes' side just three points above the bottom three heading into the final three games of the campaign.

In response to his performance, a number of West Ham fans have slammed Moyes' decision to play Evra as part of a back three, while the defender's display was also slated, with many suggesting that they hope that he will not represent the side again.

West Ham fans support Andy Carroll over David Moyes after training ground bust-up

According to reports by Football.London, West Ham United manager David Moyes and striker Andy Carroll were involved in a training ground bust-up on Monday following their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, and Irons fans know whose side they are on.

Football.London says that duo were involved in a heated exchange at the Rush Green training base on Monday, with the centre-forward unhappy that he wasn’t brought off of the substitutes’ bench against the Premier League champions.

Moyes, who was slated by the fans on Twitter for the starting XI he picked against Pep Guardiola’s men, made a triple change when City netted their fourth goal, but Carroll wasn’t one of the players picked to come on and the 29-year-old is said to have walked off straight down the tunnel following the Scot’s decision.

West Ham supporters have been quick to have their say on the altercation via social media, and it is clear to see whose side they are on.

While one said “team Carroll”, another said “I’m with Carroll on this one”.

Definitely with Carroll on this one. That game was ready made for him to lead the line if we were not gonna play through and hold much of the ball. Their back line would not have dealt well with him.

'No confidence in the board'

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.

So where did it all go wrong, David? There you were, perched up above your own Directors’ Box, looking like an extra in a Peaky Blinders episode with that new cap, and peering over the glass barricade while wondering just why you are so, so disliked.

You may be a billionaire, you have just had your 69th birthday - you are just a couple of weeks older than me - and you probably have all you want, materially in the world.

I mentioned this fact to a few mates recently, and was taken to task over my own very modest achievements in life, in comparison, and my answer was that at least I wasn’t hated by 50,000 people!

You may own a Premier League club with no way you can be forced out any time soon, but you can’t buy being respected, being loved or even being wanted. And you know, David Sullivan, that will never change.

Maybe you don’t care what people think of you? Maybe you are happy behind the beefed-up security to keep your club’s fans away from you. Maybe not.

You were looking down on 60-plus security men in goggles and glowing Nike football boots, just to make sure nobody got on your pitch to complain about the way you have run West Ham. And, in fact, ironically, you have achieved these past few months all you wanted.

There was no march, at a time when powerful RWHFAG could maybe have got 10,000 fans onto the streets. That never happened. This time around there was a small gathering of the WHUISA early doors, passing motions of no confidence against you, and across the wastelands of Stratford there were a couple of marches taking place.

They were endorsed by differing groups and they were noisy. They made their point and good luck to them, because they had every right to show their anger. But I would doubt there were no more than a couple of thousand ,tops, venting their annoyance at how their club has changed and the amount of pony they were fed to get them away from Upton Park.

So Sullivan got his way. No mass protest beamed around the world to damage the brand, an excellent team performance, a crucial victory and a set of supporters who should never have been doubted for a second, who roared and sung the side to victory.

We were as one, us and the team. Never in doubt. But how does it feel to know deep down that you may own it, but you are not part of it, you are not really wanted?

What bothers me most is that your actions, you and the Board, had got us to a place nobody wanted to be in. Throwing things at people is wrong. Against the law. Running onto the pitch is wrong. Against the law.

But it came to that. Yes, it was wrong, but many if not everyone had some empathy with the ‘few’ who got onto the pitch during the Burnley disaster. More so, from my point of view, with Bubbles. He’s about my age, he’s been following the club for nearly 50 years, he goes to games with his lad, and I bet that’s the high-spot of his week.

It is for me. My lad had been charged by his mum not to let me drink too much (failed there lad), not to lose me, and to get me home in one piece. I’m in my 70th year now and it’s 61 years since I saw West Ham for the first time, so sharing that heritage with my son is important to me.

But Bubbles is now going to miss all that for one loss of patience. One lapse. He knew he would get banned, but a lifetime exile, that’s a bit steep. And it was David Sullivan who pushed him to that fateful choice.

It is the fracturing of our fan base that I blame Sullivan , David Gold and Karren Brady, for. In good times supporters’ groups organise coach trips. In bad times they proliferate and demand regime change, to have a voice and to hold people to account for what the rank and file call lies and the Board call exaggerated ambition.

We now have an array of fans groups who seem to be at war with each other. We are all West Ham, but at the moment you would not think so. And it’s split politically and by class, so it seems.

The abuse is distressing to hear. People are being abused for being on the Right, for being lefties, for maybe knowing the Mayor of London, who gets dreadful stick for either being brown, Muslim or Labour. Or all three.

Our fan base is not split, it is fractured alarmingly. There are calls for a united front to deal with Sullivan and the board. There seems as much chance of that as seeing Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn on the same platform calling for greater friendship with Russia!

The splits between the fans' groups is sad. When it is split, it is weakened. There was a point when a negotiating committee of several groups were able to meet Brady. That's long gone now.

And when Sullivan can sit in his stadium with a just few thousand outside chanting, then he has won, it doesn’t get to him and force him to make concessions.

I must admit, with not being around the ground for matches much of late, I was surprised to discover so many people who were fed-up with the in-fighting. Basically folk want to enjoy the football, have a stadium that is fit for purpose, and a transfer policy they can understand. The in-house bickering is just putting people off getting involved, or daring to have a different opinion.

One guy I spoke to told me of having what he thought was a polite exchange on line, only to find that he was soon being abused through his own Facebook messaging page. That sort of thing turns people right off becoming involved.

But we now have a situation where one of the biggest fan groups, whose leaders did so much to force the club to listen to supporters’ complaints - 15,000 Facebook members in a matter of weeks for the RWHFAG that scared the crap out of Sullivan - do not have a voice, well not officially anyway, that is being heard.

When the "colourful past" of their leaders became too prominent outside of the West Ham bubble, Brady and Sullivan ran for cover behind the Supporter Advisory Board, distanced themselves publicly and declared they would only deal with fans in future through the SAB.

Now the newly launched RWHF group, who like our goodselves here at KUMB are not on the SAB while smaller groups are, find themselves on the outside looking in. That has caused a considerable amount of annoyance and has contributed hugely to the current antipathy between fans.

Only West Ham can sort this out. My advice, for what it’s worth, is for the RWHF to bite the bullet, clean up their act a bit, and try to get onto the SAB as the only real avenue to get at the people that matter at the London Stadium. They represent far too many to be ignored.

So there you have it. I would rather talk about the football, about those three outstanding goals, about Marko’s stunning volley for the third, about Arthur’s great cross.

But you end up being sidetracked by what is going on off the pitch. There were media guys there on Saturday who were sent just to cover what the fans were doing, one I know went to the WHUISA meeting and then was off to watch the two marches. The match was of secondary importance.

We need to get back to a situation where the fans are united, where the talk is about what happens on the pitch. It has been suggested to me that nothing really has changed much despite four months of pressure from fans’ groups. Again, only West Ham can change that perception.

There is a start. The flags were excellent, it looked like a real football pitch when the teams came out. And with the ring of stewards around the pitch, it actually looked a much smaller arena.

I am sure that wasn’t the initial motive. But players and managers have complained about the vastness of the pitch and the surrounds, but with those stewards, the whole place looked more compact. An optical illusion, yes, but still the football played was no illusion.

According to reports by The Mirror on April 21, West Ham United are one of six clubs interested in signing Manchester United contract rebel Marouane Fellaini this summer, and Irons fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.

The Mirror says that the Belgium international, who has been capped 80 times by his country, has told the Red Devils of his intentions to leave when his deal expires at the end of the season as he looks for one final big pay day in his career, despite the fact that Jose Mourinho wants him to stay.

Hammers boss David Moyes will already be targeting new players despite the fact that his team aren’t safe from relegation yet, and he certainly knows the 30-year-old well having signed him and managed him during his time in charge at Everton and then United.

West Ham supporters, who have also urged the club to sign the controversial Mario Balotelli this summer, took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said “surprise, surprise”, someone else labelled him as “another Moyes reject”.

West Ham fans have a new nickname for David Moyes and it doesn't bode well for his job prospects

West Ham United have endured another torrid season and are a club at a crossroads.

West Ham are still not safe from relegation with four games left to play and lost 4-1 to Arsenal last time out.

The Hammers had turned a corner under David Moyes after he took over from sacked Slaven Bilic in November.

West Ham were languishing in the relegation zone with just nine points when Moyes joined and now sit 15th on 35 points, six above the drop zone.

Survival was Moyes' brief when he took over on a six-month deal and his tenure will be a success if he achieves that.

The Times reports that David Moyes will not only be appointed long-term but will also be handed complete control of transfers with co-owner David Sullivan taking a step back.

But if the board do take into account how the fans feel it does not bode well for the former Manchester United boss.

That's because Hammers supporters have given the Scot a new nickname 'dithering Dave'.

Fans have already grown tired of the negative style of football employed by Moyes, who many regard as too similar to Sam Allardyce.

And they have also been hugely frustrated by his failure to make seemingly obvious substitutions at crucial times.

Against Stoke at home last week Moyes played with one up front and waited far too long to change things handing Stoke the initiative until Andy Carroll grabbed a lifesaving equaliser at the death.

Moyes was at it again away at Arsenal, dithering when his team made it 1-1 and instead of bringing on Carroll to relieve late Gunners pressure he waited far too long and West Ham paid the price conceding three late goals.

David Moyes is in line for a decent wedge of cash dropping in to his bank account if he keeps West Ham in the Premier League this season, according to West Ham news site Claret & Hugh.

Moyes is seemingly steering the club to safety despite the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon as Moyes' side sit six points clear of the drop zone with just four games of the season to go.

The Scotsman was employed back in November to replace Slaven Bilic on an apparent £15,000 a week deal until the end of this season with the sole purpose of keeping the club in the Premier League.

It's been known that the 57-year-old would be in line to get some sort of bonus at the end of this season if top-flight status was preserved and now, C&H claim they know the figures.

The Hammers boss could be set to pocket anywhere between £1.25m and £2.1m should West Ham remain a Premier League team next season. The lower figure will be paid if the Hammers finish in 17th, one spot out of the drop zone, and scaled up to a maximum of the high figure for any further positions gained in the table between now and the end of the season.

Survival will also trigger new contract negotiations between West Ham and Moyes, with the club seemingly happy with his displays as boss so far and the discipline he has instilled in the squad as they inch slowly towards survival.

Moyes could be in line for a contract of £200,000-£250,000 a month to remain in charge at the London Stadium. if he decides to carry on in east London for the near future.

The manager has insisted near enough every week that negotiations over any possible new deal would not take place until West Ham's place in th Premier League for next season is absolutely assured.

David Moyes is statistically West Ham United's worst-ever full-time manager.
The current managerial incumbent, who took over from Slaven Bilic last November has achieved a win ratio of just 23.53% since succeeding the Croat, who himself departed after two-and-a-half years in the role with a ratio of 38.3%.

Moyes, who has currently overseen 27 matches, had led the Hammers to just seven wins during that time - against Chelsea, Stoke, West Brom, Huddersfield, Watford, Southampton and Shrewsbury (FA Cup replay). Of those seven victories, only one came against a team in the upper half of the Premier League.

Of West Ham's 'top-flight only' managers, Alan Curbishley tops the pile with a score of 39.44% - close followed by Bilic. However club legend Billy Bonds still holds the overall highest score with a win ratio of 43.61% - although his four years in charge included two in the old Second Division plus a relegation inbetween.

The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been going in on their Scottish gaffer, David Moyes in response to their club’s tweet, wishing him a happy birthday. The ex-Manchester United manager took over at The London Stadium with the club 18th and looking like relegation contenders. In mid-December though, the experienced gaffer pulled the club out of the relegation zone, and they’re yet to drop into the bottom three since then.

This has made no difference to the West Ham fans propping our bar up though, who are in no mood for niceties with Moyes on his birthday. The fans have made their discontent with their board and the manager clear this season as they believe they deserve better. At present, West Ham are 15th in the Premier League after being beaten 4-1 at the Emirates by Arsenal on Sunday. The club has four games remaining and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

The Premier League status of West Ham United will be intact at the end of the season unless things go very wrong in their last four games, although whatever the result of those games is, fans will still be calling for Moyes’ head. The Scottish gaffer has taken charge of 27 games for the Hammers, winning just seven times, with six of those wins coming in the Premier League. It’s still up in the air as to whether he will still be in charge come next season, but as long he keeps the club up he’ll have done what he was brought in to do.

West Ham United are not the target of a Red Bull takeover, according to the company's global head of football.

The Hammers were reported to have turned down a bid from the energy drink company who own football clubs in America, Germany, Brazil and their native Austria, fuelling fears amongst some fans the club would be rebranded as "RB London".

All of Red Bull's clubs play under the "RB" moniker and wear the same colours, including RB Leipzig who are challenging for the Bundesliga title in their first ever season in the division.

Jack Sullivan, son of West Ham co-chairman David, said last month that Red Bull had a �650m takeover offer for the Hammers rejected by the Premier League club.

But the group's global head of football Oliver Mintzlaff has flatly denied any suggestion in West Ham and said Red Bull are not currently looking to add to its portfolio of football clubs.

"I should really know about this in my function because I'd be actively involved in it," Mintzlaff told German magazine Kicker.

"But I am not involved. Thus, I can completely rule it out. We continue to focus on our investments at our current clubs."

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has said he and partner David Gold, who together own a controlling stage in the club, have no desire to sell.

"We, the current owners, have no desire to sell the club unless it is to somebody like the King of Saudi Arabia who can take it to a level we cannot ourselves hope to reach," said Sullivan last year.

The London Review of Books is not where one would usually expect to find an article about West Ham United, but Helen Thompson writes about the travails associated with the move to the London Stadium: West Ham
She argues, 'At the heart of West Ham’s woes is the simple fact that the football club is no longer playing at a football stadium. In the summer of 2005 London was chosen to host the 2012 Olympics and West Ham United were celebrating their return to the Premier League after a two-season absence. Few around the club at that time would have welcomed the prospect of leaving the Boleyn Ground, where they had played since 1904, for a new stadium in Stratford, and no one in the office of the London mayor, Ken Livingstone, imagined they were constructing an Olympic stadium that a football club could inherit when the games were over. In 2013 the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and West Ham, under the majority ownership of David Gold and David Sullivan, two businessmen who had made their money from pornography, agreed that the club would acquire a 99-year lease on the Olympic stadium. By then, West Ham had gone too far to retreat – not least in resisting the legal challenge from its London rival Tottenham Hotspur – and in the second round of bidding for the tenancy the LLDC had received no other serious offer.

The relationship has now turned disastrously sour, leaving the LLDC with a stadium losing more than £20 million a year and West Ham in tumult despite the club’s having made a £43 million profit in its first season at Stratford. We know – because their correspondence with the current mayor, Sadiq Khan, on the subject was released after a Freedom of Information request – that Gold and Sullivan, along with West Ham’s vice-chairman, Karren Brady, think the move has in good part been a catastrophe. But West Ham’s top triumvirate has also spent much of the last two seasons trumpeting the success of the move and effectively threatening those season-ticket holders who have complained about the match-day experience, including rudimentary safety concerns, by telling them that fifty thousand people are waiting to take their seats. Many West Ham supporters wonder if the club they love still exists. In the home game against Burnley on 10 March anger and disappointment flared, and a number of fans stormed the pitch while others slung abuse at the directors’ box. The stewards employed by the stadium operator seemed to have no idea what to do. The additional security put in place for the next home game cost taxpayers under the terms of the lease around £60,000.

At the heart of West Ham’s woes is the simple fact that the football club is no longer playing at a football stadium. The shape is all wrong, for a start: a rectangular pitch is surrounded by an oval array of seats, most of which are too far from the action to allow the energy and sound of the fans to have much effect on what happens on the pitch. The stadium was built for athletics, and without thought for the fact that the only viable future it had after the Olympics was as a venue for top-flight football. The massive cost of moving the retractable seating to allow both West Ham and UK Athletics to use the stadium is the reason for most of the financial problems besetting LLDC.

That West Ham is an inconvenient necessity in Stratford could scarcely be more obvious. On match days, stewards frogmarch the fans streaming out of the train stations away from the Westfield shopping centre on a circuitous route to the stadium, purportedly for health and safety reasons. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s website announces that the job of the London Stadium – as it is now known – is to bring in ‘new events and activities’. Sadiq Khan refused for months to meet Brady to discuss the problems at the stadium, before finally acquiescing to a meeting that lasted only 45 minutes. His priority is a commercial strategy for turning the stadium into ‘a hub for global events and not just football’. The Rolling Stones will play there in May in their first appearance in Britain for five years.

If the club’s results had been better over the past 18 months some of the discontent would probably have remained buried. Most West Ham supporters had reconciled themselves to moving to Stratford (largely because they hated losing at anything to Tottenham) and having done so grasped at a dream, as football fans are wont to do: in a bigger stadium, with increased match-day revenue, good times, they hoped, would finally arrive. As it turned out, the last season at the Boleyn Ground was a successful one and expectations soared. But Sullivan and Gold saw no reason to invest money in a team whose vulnerabilities were still evident. As the squad’s deficiencies became ever more glaring after the move, they looked for cut-price players to patch things over, but in the last transfer window appeared only to weaken the squad. Without a better team, there is only the harsh reality of a stadium that isn’t fit to stage football and owners who, at best, were deceived as to what kind of stadium they had secured, and at worst dissembled when the decision to move could no longer be undone.

West Ham fans tend to think that what happens at their club says something about the state of English football. It’s an illusion born of a summer afternoon 52 years ago when West Ham players provided the four goals and the captaincy that won England the World Cup. But it is not without some truth. Over the past two decades or so English football has changed almost beyond recognition. New stadiums host games in the gaps between conferences. Exorbitantly paid players and managers come and go at dizzying speed, and any number of top clubs have been acquired by foreign owners for whom football barely registers in their business interests. The FA Cup final, once the most sacred event of the season, has become a sideshow. The connection between the old East End and West Ham was diminished long before the fans poured down Green Street for the last time. By the early 2000s many supporters made their way from Essex, Kent and more affluent parts of London rather than from the streets where fans-turned-players like Martin Peters, the future World Cup winner, and Mark Noble, a future club captain, first learned to pass a ball. In 2006, the team conceded an injury-time equaliser in the cup final, three minutes away from winning West Ham’s first silverware in 26 years. A few months after that, the families who had owned the club since it was founded in 1895 by the owner of the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company sold it to a consortium of Icelandic bankers who promised Champions League football within five years. When the consortium’s business empire collapsed during the financial crisis and the massively expanded wage bill didn’t even yield another cup run, West Ham were lucky to escape administration.

The move to the new stadium has proved so traumatic because every aspect of being a supporter there is a reminder of the transformed nature of the sport, and the football on the pitch has provided no relief. Football, as Arthur Hopcraft wrote in The Football Man (1968), has been built into the British urban psyche, especially, he might have added, in areas like the East End, where the industrial working class lived and worked. It gave communities a proud heritage to be passed from one generation to the next, and sometimes exalted its tribal loyalties beyond sanity. The people who came to watch the game found in its drama an authentic experience that they understood with a fierce exactitude. To anyone who remembers what British football once was, the new Stratford – the Westfield shopping centre and the roads leading to the building sites that line the Olympic park – is not an urban place. It establishes no claim on the memory or imagination and makes no impact on the senses. There is nothing that transcends commercial imperatives. Football in this country cannot be watched in such surroundings and remain football. For West Ham there is no place they can go to play the game most supporters still want to watch. Worse still, there is no illusion that there could be such a place.

West Ham United are set to be active in the summer transfer window if David Moyes remains in charge.

Stuart Pearce has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 17th April, that he finds it incredible that West Ham United have not been able to leave a senior player in the stands since he arrived.

Pearce has been appointed as David Moyes’ assistant, and he has suggested that if he remains at West Ham for the summer transfer window, then strengthening the squad will be imperative.

Pearce feels that his current options at West Ham are very slim, and that is shown from the fact that every senior player has always had to be included in Moyes’ match-day squad when fit.

“The incredible thing is in the time we’ve been at the club we’ve never left a senior player in the stands, so I think the squad needs growing,” Pearce said, when asked about West Ham's transfer plans for the summer.

It is not yet clear whether Pearce and Moyes will remain in charge at West Ham next term.

There is a weight of feeling against Moyes’ stewardship, even though he looks likely to keep West Ham in the Premier League.

Many Hammers fans feel that the Scottish boss has been too defensive during his time in charge, and want a more pro-active manager in charge next season.

West Ham managed to draw 1-1 with Stoke City in their most recent match, which has pushed them closer to safety.

The Hammers are likely to need just one more victory from their remaining matches, with their next game coming against Arsenal at the weekend.

Football.London reported on Thursday that Kouyate was one of seven players potentially set to leave the club in the next transfer window, as his performances hadn’t been good enough this season.

The football news website revealed that even though the defensive midfielder is contracted to the club until 2021, the Hammers may still look to sell him as they could get a decent fee for him.

It is believed that whomever is in charge of the club next season will be handed a huge transfer budget in order to revamp the squad so it does better in the league next season.

Football.London’s report claims it will be a stunning £60million squad overhaul with James Collins, Joe Hart, Reece Oxford, Patrice Evra, Joao Mario, Robert Snodgrass and Kouyate all potential victims of the club’s desire to make room for new faces at the club.

However the idea of selling Kouyate must be instantly ruled out.

While it’s true that the midfield enforcer has woefully stumbled through this season in the 32 appearances he has made across all competitions, it’s too soon to show him the door.

In the 115 appearances he had made for the Hammers ahead this season, Kouyate looked capable of being a regular member of the first-team.

The 28-year-old adds a steely presence in the heart of midfield when at his best, while constantly offloading the ball to his more creative teammates in order to help his side successfully go on the attack.

Kouyate is still capable of being the player he was in previous seasons for the Hammers, and would be a useful member of the squad next season.

If the player was able to improve his displays during the next campaign, there’s no reason to suggest that he wouldn’t be a guaranteed first-team starter at the club one again.

Therefore the Hammers would be foolish to sell Kouyate after one bad season as the talented midfielder is still capable of doing a good job at the London Stadium.

West Ham United currently look set to avoid relegation from the Premier League this term.

Stuart Pearce has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 16th April, that he has one big worry for next season at West Ham United.

West Ham look set to narrowly avoid relegation this term, after drawing their last match with Stoke City to take a big step towards safety.

But Pearce feels that the Hammers need to be concerned about next season already.

With Wolverhampton Wanderers already promoted from the Championship, it appears that the likes of Cardiff City, Fulham or Aston Villa could follow them into the top flight.

And Pearce feels that the three teams that come up could all be well placed to avoid relegation next term.

“I would worry that the three teams that come up will have another impact like these three [the teams promoted last season] and put even more pressure on the established teams. I throw West Ham into that, and Watford.” the Hammers assistant manager admitted.

Huddersfield, Brighton and Newcastle came up last term, and all three clubs look likely to avoid the drop.

West Ham, meanwhile, are now seven points clear of the relegation zone, with just five matches remaining this season.

David Moyes’ side are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Two years and two battles with relegations, West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to grow disheartened after the move to the London Stadium away from their beloved Upton Park seems to have caused more negatives then the positives promised.

Another season to forget with the appointment of David Moyes in November the club have still not guaranteed their safety in the Premier League, finding themselves seven points clear with five games to play. A 1-1 draw with Stoke on Monday night saw heavy criticism coming from fans and pundits alike for seeing Moyes setting up his team in a negative manner, when a win would have all but guaranteed their Premier League status for another season.

Since their seventh-placed finish in their final season at Upton Park issues on and off the pitch have struck the East London club with promises of European football few and far between. A lack of marquee signings and an underwhelming appointment of Moyes have signalled that these lofty ambitions may have been premature.

However, with Moyes contract expiring the end of this season, the Hammers need a solid summer to build a solid structure starting with the appointment of departing PSG boss Unai Emery. After the Ligue 1 outfits struggle in Europe, the former Sevilla boss seems to be on his way out of the Parc des Princes with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel in the frame to replace him, according to The Daily Mail.

With three consecutive Europa League trophies under his belt at Sevilla and the league and cup double with PSG this term, the Spaniard is no stranger to success and could be the man deliver success to West Ham in their hopes of reaching the Champions League and challenging England’s elite.

West Ham Vice-Chairman Karren Brady has come under renewed fire from supporters after an ill-timed tweet last night.
The opening episode of Brady’s latest TV programme called ‘Give It A Year’ began its run on ITV at 8pm – the same time as West Ham’s clash with Stoke got underway with some questioning her priorities between TV and football.
At 7.43pm, a message was posted on her Twitter account, which read: “15 mins until my new show. Give it a Year starts on ITV, hope you watch it and hope you enjoy it!”
In the new 12 part show, she brags how it was her idea to turn a ‘bust football club‘ into a ‘multi-million-pound business‘. She was referring to Birmingham City. Brady saw an advert in a newspaper which led David Sullivan and the Gold brothers to buy an 84% shareholding for £700,000 from administrators in March 1993. Birmingham was later sold Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung for £81.5m in July 2007.

Not for the first time, Karren Brady incurred the wrath of West Ham fans with an ill-timed tweet published on Monday evening.

Just 15 minutes before the Hammers were due to kick off their Monday night TV game against Stoke City at the London Stadium, the club's executive vice-chairman forewent any comment on the game to instead remind her followers to watch her new television series, which started at the same time on UK channel ITV.

Of course, Brady's tweet was met with a barrage of incredulous replies from West Ham fans, many of whom questioned whether or not she was even aware her club had a game scheduled for that evening.

Along with the club's owners, Davids Gold and Sullivan, Brady is a largely unpopular figure among the Hammers fans due to her tireless work in uprooting the club from their spiritual home at Upton Park in favour of a move across town to the cavernous Olympic bowl.

Such a PR faux-pas is hardly going to help improve her standing.

West Ham United drew 1-1 with Stoke City in the Premier League last night.

West Ham boss David Moyes addressed the media in the aftermath of his side's 1-1 draw with Stoke City last night, and suggested that his team's display against the Potters was one of the best that he has seen since taking over as manager in November 2017, as quoted by Football.London.

The Hammers currently sit in 14th spot in the Premier League table, but are now crucially seven points clear of 18th placed Southampton, with just five league games remaining this season.

The job that Moyes has done since taking over as manager of West Ham in November has been admirable, but the club's fans have not been entirely happy with the brand of football that they have witnessed under the Scot.

The 54-year-old spoke to reporters after his side's draw with Stoke, and suggested that his side's display was one of the best that he has seen during his time in east London, as quoted by Football.London:

"I think the important thing was to make sure we didn't lose tonight and I thought the commitment from the players, energy, to make sure that didn't happen showed late on but their play throughout with the ball was one of the better performances I have seen since I have been here."

Following a brief spell of silence from the media, Moyes said:

"Some of you are surprised by that?"

Cue more silence...

Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Arsenal on Sunday, and that should provide them with a fantastic opportunity for three points, considering the fact that Arsene Wenger is clearly prioritising the Europa League now.

Drawing with Stoke City was a disappointing result which brought West Ham firmly back to earth after seeing off Southampton and then drawing at Stamford Bridge, but fans pointed the finger at one man in particular: David Moyes.

The former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland boss opted to retain the same starting line-up that took a point from Chelsea and used the same 5-4-1 system, deploying Marko Arnautovic as a makeshift centre-forward.

On home turf against second from bottom Stoke City, the conservative set up almost ended in catastrophe as Joe Hart’s calamitous error allowed Peter Crouch to give his side the lead before Andy Carroll’s last gasp equaliser.

Fans did not hide their displeasure on Twitter…

The Scot’s contract is set to run until the summer with safety still not secured for the Hammers, who have been brought right back into the fight by drawing against the Potters.

It could have been worse for the Irons had David Moyes not looked to his bench, where he first deployed the hero at Chelsea, Javier Hernandez, but even then not until the 77th minute.

Playmaker Manuel Lanzini joined in with only nine minutes left on the clock and Andy Carroll, who proved to be the equaliser, was only given four minutes of normal time plus injury time.

With fixtures coming up against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United before the season is out, fans were baffled by the decision to go quite so defensive in a must win game at the London Stadium.

Now, West Ham are seven points from safety with five games left to play but only face opposition against top half sides, with a trip to face Leicester City and Sam Allardyce’s return on the final day of the season with Everton completing the club’s fixture list.

West Ham’s decision to retain David Moyes next season is a mistake

David Moyes is set to remain as West Ham manager, say The Times, as the newspaper has revealed that the Scotsman is in talks to extend his contract beyond the end of the current season.

The ex-Sunderland boss was brought in to the club in November after the dismissal of Slaven Bilic tasked with keeping the Hammers in the Premier League after a woeful start. Five months on, safety is far from secure but looks more likely than not.

Though he is yet to be officially offered a new deal, he is in talks with David Gold and David Sullivan over a long-term deal to secure his future at the London Stadium.

However, the decision to keep Moyes on will not be a popular one with fans. His defensive tactics, questionable signings and lack of substantial improvements on the field have done little to convince.

Coming in to the club with a trashed reputation having taken Sunderland down, Moyes had a point to prove and has done that to some extent by stabilising a club in turmoil off the field with fan protests continuing in the stands and around the ground.

Good results against Southampton and Chelsea were quickly forgotten though as the ex-Everton boss selected a team with five defenders and no natural striker at home in a must win game against second from bottom Stoke City.

His tactical reluctance to attack and stubborn desire to defend first almost harks back to the days of Sam Allardyce, a manager with an acceptable record at the club but who was detested by fans for failing to ‘play the West Ham way’.

His only major signings to date, Jordan Hugill from Preston, who is yet to start, and Patrice Evra on a free transfer, have had next to no impact on the first team and have only fueled criticism of the club’s transfer policy.

The decision appears to do little to aid the club’s owners in their quest to please fans and equally shows a short-term focus on the club’s goals given that many fans remain unconvinced by Moyes.

If he is to stay, Moyes will need backing in the summer in financial terms and that will have to be substantial if it is to entirely convert Moyes’ style in east London to capture the imagination of Irons’ fans.

According to a report in The Times, West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have made a huge U-turn by abandoning plans to appoint a director of football, and Irons fans have been quick to react to the rumour.

The Evening Standard reported last month that the east London outfit would bring in a director of football following criticism from the London Stadium faithful about their recruitment, with Sullivan taking a back seat from transfer negotiations.

However, The Times reports that they have now changed their minds and are ready to give manager David Moyes, who certainly wasn’t popular with fans on Twitter following the 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Monday, full control when it comes to transfers, with the Scot set to sign a permanent contract to stay with the club beyond the end of the season imminently.

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.

West Ham fans hit out at Karren Brady after the club's vice chairman urged people to watch her new television show... instead of the Hammers' Premier League clash against Stoke.

The Irons take on the Potters at the London Stadium this evening with both clubs still unsure of their top-flight status next season.

But Brady stars on the ITV show 'Give It A Year' while the match is being played, and she took to social media to plug the new programme.

Hammers fans weren't impressed, with one tweeting: "I like you Karren, but this a PR nightmare. Did you not think how your already p***ed of fans would react to this?"

The opening episode of West Ham vice-chairman Brady’s new programme, Give It A Year, began its run on ITV at 8pm - the same time as the Hammers’ clash with Stoke got underway.

At 7.43pm, a message was posted on her Twitter account, which read: “15 mins until my new show.

“Give it a Year starts on ITV, hope you watch it and hope you enjoy it!”

But West Ham supporters, who have protested against the board, were unimpressed by the tweet.

One fuming fan replied: “Lady Kazza, you should sack whoever runs your woeful social media. Unless of course you have just tweeted whilst in the boardroom of our awful rented arena.”

An irate Iron said: “Seriously?!?! Are you even aware that we've got a game tonight?”

A third wrote: “Most of us will be watching the Hammers love. You know based in Stratford, hoping they can avoid relegation. You on the other hand want us to watch your ridiculous TV programme. Sums up your bleeding loyalty.”

While a seething supporter said: “Meanwhile that football club you are involved with is playing for Premiership survival tonight kick off at 8pm also you silly woman. Please leave my club immediately!”

A win against Stoke would all-but guarantee another season of Premier League football for West Ham.

Stoke are mired in the relegation zone but victory at the London Stadium would give them a fighting chance of dragging themselves to safety.

The Potters are currently six points behind Swansea City, who are currently 17th.

Any West Ham fans watching ITV’s Give It A Year last night would have been spluttering at this quote from their vice-chairman Karren Brady: “I can’t imagine anyone spending thousands of pounds on mugs.”

OK, so she was talking about mugs that you drink from, not mugs that you play in midfield. Even so, Karren’s no stranger to sanctioning pointless big-money purchases.

Quirky inventor Thomas had spent years, and thousands, solving the problem of tea going cold.

Ignoring solutions such as “drink it while it’s hot”, “stick it in the microwave” or “just make another cup”, he’d invented a technological fix which would set you back £40 for an everyday mug and around £1,000 for the luxury version.

Via the magic of TV Karren first met him a year earlier and went back to see how he was getting on 12 months later.

It’s an enjoyable watch. Karren is much more relaxed and likeable than she is on The Apprentice and it was great to see her encouraging entrepreneurs such as Sarah, who had started her own giant light-up letters hire company.

Karren’s suggested that building a business in the weddings industry could be a real money spinner. Too right, Karren. Just ask Katie Price.

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.

As the West Ham faithful look forward to the next match against Stoke City on Monday night, there are many that are beginning to wonder which players will still be at the club come the end of the summer. Yes, as the end of the season draws near, the unmistakable and obligatory rumour mill jumps into overdrive as many within the fandoms and in the media begin circulating news items about possible targets and players that might be up for grabs.

“Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part!” – ‘Otter’ – National Lampoon’s Animal House

Of course much of this is pure conjecture as until the league status of the club is confirmed, then all parties will be unsure which will be the most appropriate targets for the summer window. Many are fearing that some of the West Ham prized assets will be sold off in order to fund the restructuring of the squad, regardless of whether the team manages to avoid relegation.

Manuel Lanzini is top of the list and depending on his remaining performances for West Ham…and whether he will successfully feature for Argentina in the World Cup in Russia this summer, will largely determine whether other teams will show an interest to retain his services…whether in the Premier League or elsewhere in Europe.

West Ham currently have players on short term contracts or loan arrangements with huge salaries…whether they will be retained remains to be seen but if an overhaul is required, then a mass clearcut is certainly needed too! There has to be a shedding of the expensive players and those who are on the fringe…it simply makes a better business case to oust them out of the club. Other players will likely choose to leave…such as Hernandez, who hasn’t been able to find regular first team football at the Hammers this season, maybe followed by the likes of Carroll and Collins who may be deemed surplus to requirements.

The goal of the club now must be to create a squad that is balanced in both youth and experience as well as having depth in each position. Of course this is the stuff of legend, but this has been one of the reasons the Hammers have failed to impress over the last two seasons. The squad has not been able to develop properly because of poor transfer deals and underperforming players…the goal of higher performances was undermined in its restructuring infancy on leaving Upton Park.

There are two main hurdles that will prevent a successful transition this summer; money and management! How much ‘new’ money will be made available and who will be the manager? The transfer budget will be key here, as most fans will expect a sizeable treasure chest but many fear it will be once again vastly underfunded. The choice of manager will be key in determining which transfer targets will be chased in the summer and if needed, come next January too.

Whilst fans are in agreement that many new players are needed to bolster the squad, there are conflicting opinions as to which positions take priority! Do the Hammers need to strengthen in defence? Yes! Do they need a holding midfielder? Yes! Do they need to build a spine to the team? Yes!

The problem for any new manager, or even for Moyes, come the summer is that there have been so many deficiencies in all positions that the restructuring task is a mammoth one. However, the injury problems that the squad has faced this season and the last needs to be analysed more closely. Whilst the medical teams have worked wonders with some players to bring them back to match fitness quickly, there have been other players who have struggled all season. Some were possibly called back to the first team before they were even fully fit because of necessity…such as many believe was the case for Antonio all season, who has looked a shadow of his former self but is carrying a lot more weight too.

The malaise around the club has to be put to one side for now and during the rest of this season, as the priority will be to get a squad and first team that is firing on all cylinders and is singing the same tune. Whether in the starting eleven, on the substitutes’ bench or…as a squad or youth player, each and everyone must become part of a whole, must become an entity that is bigger than themselves.

This can only be achieved when the club address the major issues and start again with the training facilities and methods as well as the playing and coaching staff. It’s back to the drawing board, shed the players that are not the long-term solutions, retain the very best and bring in a new crop of seasoned professionals that will fit into the new paradigm.

Whether West Ham will lunge with purpose on big summer signings is yet to be seen, however, there are many players that will be available as teams get relegated from the Premier League this season…West Ham must exploit the fire sales from those unfortunate predicaments and find the players that may function better under a new regime and battle beneath new colours.

Whatever the solution, these are testing times ahead for the club, the management and of course the fans. There must be a clear focus on the future task, regardless of performances and results between now and the end of the season. The squad cannot fall on its sword before it has had a chance to mature…it must have all the right components to make it thrive and ready to enter conflict again next season…the young caterpillar must not be allowed to eat the butterfly it may try to become.

West Ham fans react to Andy Carroll's return to fitness

Andy Carroll has started just seven Premier League games for West Ham United this season.

West Ham United have been handed a major injury boost ahead of Monday's game against Stoke City, with injured striker Andy Carroll potentially fit for the clash according to the club's official website.

The 29-year-old has been out of action since the 4th of January after suffering a hairline fracture to his foot following the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, subsequently missing all 10 Premier League games played since.

Carroll has only played 12 league games this season, scoring twice, and it's safe to say West Ham have fared well in his absence.

A groin injury he picked up last April hindered the striker from beginning the campaign with the Hammers, with his first league appearance not coming until mid-October - seven games into the campaign.

The injury-prone Carroll was a subject of a January transfer inquest from Chelsea, and his future at east London doesn't seem certain considering that he is slowly becoming surplus to requirements.

West Ham fans aren't particularly over the moon with the news of the player's return, given that he has been injured 11 times since arriving the club from Liverpool in 2012, and their reactions on Twitter say it all.

Andy Carroll is expected to return to the West Ham United squad for the game against Stoke City on Monday night.

Andy Carroll is fast becoming a forgotten man at West Ham and indeed in the Premier League.

Injury-prone Carroll has played just 14 games for West Ham this season, scoring only two goals - albeit two very important goals in a win over West Bromwich Albion.

The big Geordie has played only 124 matches for the Hammers in six seasons and netted just 32 goals in that time.

West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have been criticised by supporters over a lack of spending, particularly after promises to sign a marquee striker on moving to the London Stadium failed to materialise.

But is it any wonder after having their fingers so badly burned with the signing of Carroll, a deal which has cost the club a staggering £50 million and counting.

With a wage of £90,000 per week - as widely reported by the likes of The Mirror, Carroll has cost the Hammers £48 million so far based on his salary, initial loan fee from Liverpool and his eventual £18 million permanent fee - a then club record.

And that figure will undoubtedly pushed over £50 million when goal bonuses and other such clauses are taken into account.

The eye-watering amount means Carroll has cost the Hammers £1.5 million per goal since joining the East Londoners.

While nobody doubts Carroll's quality and commitment when he takes to the field fully fit, question marks over his commitment off the pitch and his injury record are a huge source of frustration for the club and its fans.

When he is fit and firing there are not many better all-round forwards in the Premier League. But that is half the problem, he very rarely is.

West Ham simply cannot rely on injury-prone striker former England man anymore and have wasted years trying to build teams to get the best out of his attributes.

David Sullivan has previously admitted he would never have signed Carroll had he known how the move would pan out while supporters feel the club should have known what they were getting themselves into by signing the striker given his injury record prior to joining the club on a deal which runs until 2019.

Carroll has become little more than an expensive bonus for West Ham.

West Ham are believed to be keen on signing Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson this summer.

The Swedish international impressed in his first season at Elland Road following his loan spell from Torino, yet he has not been able to reach the same heights this term for the Whites.

According to the Guardian, the Hammers are looking at strengthening their defence by bringing the 27-year-old to east London ahead of next season.

With David Moyes looking likely to still be at the London Stadium next campaign, the Scotsman will be aiming to add to his defence with the Hammers losing Jose Fonte to China in February.

The ex-Everton manager was at Craven Cottage recently to watch Leeds in action against Fulham, although many believed he was there to cast an eye on three of the home side's players.

Ryan Fredericks, Tom Cairney and Aleksandar Mitrovic have all been linked with a move to West Ham, with Cairney even spotted watching the Hammers' 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

However, Moyes may have actually been in west London to keep tabs on Jansson in Fulham's 2-0 win last Tuesday night.

While Leeds will not want to part ways with their defender, one report back in Sweden suggest that Jansson would be very interested in a move to the Premier League if it was offered to him.

However another publication, Expressen, are more sceptical about the defender moving to West Ham this summer, labelling the Hammers a ‘chaos club’.

Hundreds of West Ham fans protested against the board outside the London Stadium ahead of their clash with Southampton. The supporters, angry at the way the club is being run, congregated outside Stratford station before making their way to the ground. Once there the supporters, many of whom were carrying banners, marched around the stadium singing anti-board songs. Security inside the ground has been beefed up after trouble flared at the last home match against Burnley on March 10. A security barrier has been erected close to the directors' box, where joint-owner David Sullivan was struck by a coin at the Burnley game. Sullivan will be in the directors' box for the Saints game, but in a seat a few rows back from his usual one.

Regarding West Ham forever blowing bubbles, just how much of a bubble have they blown with regard to the rise and rise of West Ham in London, with respect to the other clubs and the various London boroughs and their taxpayers out of pocket regarding the London Stadium fiasco?

Why have Newham Council been given £750 million football money from the 32 other borough's taxpayers, to try and lift what is a localized club beyond their general fair-to-middling place among the football clubs of the UK (not one league title to boast of or even a second place in the top division.)

One wonders how this story might have panned out in Madrid, if Rayo Vallecano had been on a similar rise with intent to become a supreme football 'super power,' or Salgueiros in Porto from their Paranhos base, or even Partick Thistle in Glasgow.

I wonder how much Spurs are paying to rent Wembley per season and how this compares to West Ham's rent of the London Stadium, perhaps as a guideline, now that the Mayor of London has taken control of the London Stadium until further notice.

If there is to be a rise and rise of a localized London club, then the West End boys of Brentford look better placed than the East End boys of West Ham. After all, they have their own airport regarding their geographical closeness to Heathrow and the chance to hire a 90,000 seat stadium with no apparent history regarding legitimacy of construction and sport-use remit.

It didn't work for Queens Park Rangers at White City nor Queens Park at Hampden, never mind the ill-fated Thames F.C. and their reported 100,000 capacity dog's stadium.

If the London Stadium issue were to unravel further, regarding the various London borough taxpayers and any future legal challenges, then West Ham might find they are without any kind of future, having dispensed with their local base and the Boleyn ground, in fact stuffed forever and back to being what they were before the 60's.

Instead of building fake sand castles behind the new-build super stand, they had enough land to build half-of Wembley anyway (almost.) Regarding other potential expansions of the Boleyn ground, the nearby housing was only constructed in the 60's so there was ample opportunity for development along the lines of Anfield and it wouldn't have been such a big deal to re-think the tube station congestion problem in relation to safety and crowd management.

The fact that they didn't makes one wonder just what kind of club it really is, regarding their fan base and their pretty sand castle construction fantasies.

Certainly not much compared to the Gunners and their massive history and international standing among the world's elite.

West Ham will be begging Millwall for the rights to use their song, "No one likes us, we don't care".

The affection many people had seems to be fading ....... the whole club just seems so shallow & tacky these days.

The stadium fiasco as well the terrible view as an away supporter, the ambushes after games, the stupid bubble machine, the skanky owners have all put a different complexion on the club. It's been made worse by the thousands walking out of games and the booing of a manager they wanted for years. That's the trouble when your tickets are bought up by touts and flogged off to bemused Japanese tourists who probably think the 'London Stadium' must house a top team. The fact that it's a nightmare to get to and away from doesn't help either

The decent West Ham supporters must dearly wish they were back at Upton Park where everything felt right and the atmosphere entirely different.

West Ham could be set to suffer a huge blow in the transfer market at the end of the season, as they could lose a key attacker.

The Daily Mirror states Mexico international Javier Hernandez remains open to offers taking him away from the London Stadium after struggling to earn consistent starts for the club this year.

An upturn in form has seen Hernandez hit four goals in his last eight Premier League appearances, including the equaliser off the bench in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, but he’s looking to complete 90 minutes regularly and will seek an exit if those chances don’t present themselves.

Signed from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a fee reported to be worth £16m, the former Manchester United striker has started just 16 games for West Ham this season and has recently found himself benched, with Marko Arnautovic playing centrally.

His eight-goal haul puts him second in West Ham’s scoring charts behind the Austria ace, who leads the way with nine strikes.

Declan Rice and Joe Hart (although criticised as well) were amongst the West Ham United players to be praised by the fans following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

The Hammers followed their huge home victory over Southampton last weekend by picking up an extremely welcome point away to the Premier League champions on Sunday afternoon.

Rice and Hart were both excellent for the visitors, whilst Javier Hernandez was widely praised after coming off the bench to net the West Ham equaliser.

Not all of the club’s players have received kind words on social media, however, with Cheikhou Kouyate taking a lot of criticism for his performance.
The 28-year-old has scored twice and provided three assists in 27 Premier League appearances this season, which is not a bad record for a central midfielder, but his form over the last few months has been very inconsistent indeed.

'No confidence in the board'

Just after noon, at the end of a two-hour meeting in a cafe-bar close to London Stadium, the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association decided upon a course of action.

"We were promised a world-class team in a world-class stadium," said a statement. "Today the members of the WHUISA that were present voted unanimously in a vote of no confidence in the current board of West Ham United to deliver this.

"We will therefore launch a concerted 'UNITED Campaign for Change' and will announce further details shortly.
